Gingerbread on Cherry Mobile NOVA

If you have done the previous upgrade, you will have no problem on doing this one.

CyanogenMod 7 RC1+Build2

For the experienced upgraders:

for those who successfully upgraded their eclair to froyo, there will only be few steps to make this upgrade.
1. make sure that your phone is rooted.
2. make sure your ClockworkMod is up to date.
3. updated flash clockworkmod recovery.
4. download necessary files:

CyanogenMod 7 RC1+Build3
Google Apps

5. From Rom Manager, select install Rom from sdcard and search for the downloaded ROM. (pre-installation select wipe data and cache.)

6. After installation and booting, return to ROM Manager and install google apps rom. (pre-installation select wipe data and cache).

For those who are new to upgrading their NOVA's, try to read my previous post.

Happy Modding.

Some random reboot.
Some random software FC's.
Camera, bluetooth, Wifi, GPS Ok. Have not tried mobile internet since i'm using wifi all the time.

all in all, these FC's are tolerable and not all the time. I'm currently using CM7 RC1+Build2.

Have not tried RC1+Build3 like what i have posted.

FC - Force Close

Search for Z4Root Software for android from the internet. Download and install it to your nova.

I'm currently using CyanogeMod7RC1+Build2.

** Make sure Your phone is Rooted **
My steps before upgrading:

1. Backup all data (in SD card) to computer.

2. Check if "ROM Manager" is updated.

3. Check if "Clockworkmod Flash recovery" is up to date. If not select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and select device "Commtiva Z71/A688".

4. From "ROM Manager", select "Backup Current ROM". This will save current ROM in to the SD card.

5. Copy backup to a safe location to your computer or CD or any media you like.

6. Download CyanogenMod7 RC1+Build2 and Google Apps and save it to your computer.

Google Apps

7. Mount your SDcard to your computer and copy the downloaded files to the SD card.

8. After copying, unmount sdcard and proceed to ROM Manager.

9. Run "Fix Permissions" to double check if device is rooted.

** You cannot install ClockworkMod Recovery/ ROM Manager if your phone is not rooted. So I assume you already rooted your phones **

10. From "ROM Manager", select "Install ROM from SD Card"

11. Select downloaded CM7RC1+B2 file from your SD card.

12. Select "Wipe Data and Cache" from ROM Pre-Installation.

13. Wait for your device to finish installing the ROM. Your device will reboot, enter recovery mode, and install ROM automatically. After Installation the device will reboot.

14. After reboot and initial setup of accounts, return to "ROM Manager". Select "Install ROM from SD card" and select the downloaded Google Apps. Select "Wipe data and cache" from pre-installation menu.

15. Your device will enter recovery mode, install ROM and reboot automatically.

16. Be Patient!

17. After Reboot, Setup your accounts and enjoy.

Recovery Mode: Vol_Up + Camera + Power then factory reset and install new google apps and ua good to go or u can revert back to official stock rom 2.1 u can get it from this link http://www.4shared.com/file/gpK5nLVn/GRE-221C-0-7009-A01.html or use your old backup *.img files. Save all files to your sd card. you can access them through the recovery mode.

Already using CyanogenMod 7 stable version

Make sure you have rooted your phone.
Check your ROM Manager (Clockworkmod) if its in the latest version.
Install latest Flash Clockworkmod Recovery.
Reboot your phone to recovery.
Backup your phone.
wipe data and cache.
Install your downloaded ROM from SDCARD.

CyanogenMod7 + Super AOSP kernel

after installation, reboot.

Check if your phone boots ok.

If it is ok, install Google Apps.

Return to Recovery Mode.
Select ROM from SDcard

kahit ano po bang z4root ang idownload? pls repz asap.. salamat po sa lahat ng tulong kung sino ka mn.. :))

t-rex said...

yup.. ok lang. basta na root mo ng maayos. how to check? try to use "Root Temporarily" wait for it to finish.. be patient. After nun out mu ung proream tapos balik ka.. dapat meron ka na option na Permanent root or Un-root.
If your serious, permanent root the device.

How to know/test if its rooted?
You could not use ROM Manager Properly if your phone is un-rooted, you could not even install it (i think). There is also a tool @ the ROM Manager to "Fix Permission" - this requires rooted device.

Then back on the previous menu then check your wifi, wifi settings kung may nakikitang wifi networks. Test your connection.

hmmm interesting.. i was successful in upgrading to FroYo using SUTLR and Jellybean Dalvik.. do you think upgrading via your method will work? I've read a lot of people messing up their upgrade to 2.3 and with those numbers,I'm still not that confident if this will work on my Cherry Nova.. I've also read that you may have to revert to 2.1 before upgrading to 2.3... any thoughts on this?

t-rex said...

i have used sutlr.. and is very much faster.. what i know is that using nb0's files, you also flash the recovery rom.
Recovery ROM is the fail safe boot area wherein you can flash new kernels and OS.

What if we downloaded a damaged nb0 and tried to flash it on our device? (Of course nb0's have a test program to check if the nb0 is good or damaged). I am just paranoid of its safety. I wanted to see what am I installing.

I can just upgrade my kernel, or the google apps, or just some patch using this method.

I upgraded my brother's NOVA from Eclair to Gingerbread with no problem.
